neighborhood "BOO!"ing

I have a confession. We're not the best neighborhood "BOO!"ers. You know the routine: you get a bag of goodies delivered on your porch by a mysterious unseen visitor with a picture of a ghost or whatever and a note that tells you it's now your turn to "BOO!" others in the neighborhood. Well, we're really good at getting the treats from others and enjoying them. In fact, this year Max was appalled that Elle was so quick to put the ghost picture up by our front door (to signify that we've already been "BOO!"ed) because he thought we should just take in as many "BOO!"s as we could get.

We're just not so good at delivering our own set of treats. Oh, we have great intentions. We always make big plans. But for some reason it's always easier said than done.

We tried to carve out time to deliver treats all week, but could never sqeeze it in. So today we decided to make a humongous batch of pumpkin muffins (recipe to follow), and get to our task.

We were all set...three plates ready to deliver. But then the cousins came over for a visit and we decided what the heck, we'd only "BOO!" two people so we could share with them. Then as we were ready to set out Claire decided she'd carry around one plate of muffins...resulting in smooshing half of them. So we were down to one.

We loaded up on our bikes and headed out with our one prize possession to deliver. Lucy was on the back of my bike and she's no lightweight to balance while trying to go super slow to wait for Claire on her super clackety crooked training-wheel laden bike, at the same time as trying to hold a plate of muffins and ride holding on with one hand.

Of course it was inevitable. After a few minutes of that balancing act I had to choose whether Lucy or the muffins should go splatting on the street...I chose the muffins.

Poor muffins.

I guess better luck next time. In the meantime, we have a couple plates of smooshed muffins to enjoy...and man oh man they are good!
